Located in midtown Manhattan, adjacent to Grand Central Terminal and the Chrysler Building, Grand Hyatt New York is one of New York City’s most notable hotels. An environmental graphics and wayfinding sign program was developed for the newly renovated Grand Hyatt, originally designed by Gruzen Samton and Der Scutt, and situated on the site of the landmark Commodore Hotel.
As part of the major renovation project, the designers developed a cohesive program that replaces 20 years of accumulated, unrelated signs and includes interior wayfinding and identification signs for the facility’s 3-story atrium and 35-floor tower housing more than 1,400 guest rooms. Additionally, an extensive electronic directory system was developed for public space kiosks and linked to every guest-room. A central computer station controls information changes, and updates can be sent directly to guest, conference, meeting, and seminar rooms.
