A comprehensive environmental graphics, donor recognition, and wayfinding sign program was designed for New York University Medical Center’s new mixed-use building which serves as the new front door to the Center, as well as the main access point for the public to all of the Center’s other destinations. With this new addition, the New York University Medical Center totals approximately 1,850,000 square feet and is comprised of Tisch Hospital, New York University School of Medicine, the Skirball Institute for Biomolecular Research, and the Schwartz Health Care Center.

This highly complex program involved an initial facilities survey, pedestrian traffic flow studies, and site analysis, as well as the development of a consistent graphic design vocabulary used throughout the facility. A flexible sign panel system is used for all public information requirements, including building identification, directories, directional, informational and orientation kiosks, office/laboratory identification, and regulatory signs relating to building, health, accessibility, fire, and ADA codes. Design criteria and standards were also developed for donor recognition requirements.
